DIRK LECHTENBERG (Lechtenberg & Partner), 43, one of the pioneers in the field of the production and use of alternative fuels. Founder and Managing Director of the company MVW Lechtenberg & Partner, Germany. During his 20-year involvement in the field of alternative fuels, he has been directly responsible for the development of RDF (Refuse Derived Fuels) projects all over the world. Before founding MVW Lechtenberg in 2004, he was Project Engineer at MBM Industrieanlagen GmbH in Ahlen/Germany, owned by Portlandzementwerke Miebach
& Söhne, Germany and later Managing Director of RDF processing plant belonging to one of the biggest private owned Dutch logistic companies, Emons Group. As a Managing Director of Lechtenberg & Partner- the world’s leading consulting firm for the implementation of alternative fuels in the cement industry, he has been developing all over the world custom - made concepts for the processing of domestic waste and other waste into alternative fuels. Lechtenberg & Partner checks the environmentally relevant and process specific influences on the cement production, plans adequate preparation plants and supervises ongoing production as well as continuous input in cement production plants – worldwide. MVW Lechtenberg is currently developing RDF projects in 20 countries around the world. As Speaker of the Naturschutzbund Youth in Germany, Member of the City Council, Regional Parliament and various other institutions, he developed a wide experience in lobbying environmental projects worldwide. As a recognized speaker he presented a number of papers on various conferences dealing with the subject of waste, cement and alternative fuels. His articles were published in many international cement magazines and other specialized press.

DR DHIRAJ RAMA at ACMP, was appointed as the Executive Director of the Association of Cementitious Materials Producers (ACMP) in November 2008. Prior to his appointment, Dr Rama was Director of Environment for the Gauteng province for the past nine years, involved in a wide range of projects in addition to managing the Environmental Impact Management component for the province. He has played an active role in the national law reform process and contributed to the amendments to the legislations relating to the National Environmental

Management Act. During the past 25 years, he has contributed to research papers in scientific journals in a range of subject fields such as environment, pharmacology, health, and science. He has also been an honorary lecturer in Occupational Health at the Department of Community Health at the University of the Witwatersrand for several years and, recently, Examination Moderator at the University of Johannesburg’s Department of Occupational Hygiene. His appointment to head the ACMP brought a wealth of experience to ensure that sustainable development is embraced by all cementitious producers associated with the ACMP. In this context his presentation will deal with some of the issues addressed at the ACMP.



MR. PETER HOFFMEYER (German BDE), Chairman of the Board of the German Waste Management Company “Nehlsen AG” ( www.nehlsen.com) , and Board Member of the German BDE ( Bundesverband der deutschen Entsorgungswirtschaft, BDE, http://www.bde-berlin.org/ )
The BDE is the Association of all waste management and recycling companies and representing them in the German Government. The Nehlsen AG is one of the biggest private owned waste Management companies with more then 3800 Employees.



TONY HADLEY (Threelogy Partners) is a Mechanical Engineer who graduated from London’s Imperial College in 1980. He has been involved in Africa for over 20 years and running Cement operations for over 10 years. For 18 years, Tony worked in the oil industry for Schlumberger in many roles, living and working in North and South America, Europe and Africa. In 1999, he joined Blue Circle Industries in the U.K. with responsibility for Africa. Following the acquisition of Blue Circle by Lafarge in 2001, Tony was appointed as Regional President for
Lafarge’s African Operations. Lafarge has cement manufacturing operations in Nigeria, Benin, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa. In 2008 and 2009 he worked for the Dangote Group as CEO for the Cement Division based in Lagos and London. Dangote Cement has over 8 million tons of Industrial Cement capacity and over 4 million tons of import capacity; 10 million tons of new capacity are being built. Tony is now working on investments in the African Cement Industry with a team of partners. He has been a member of the Nigerian, Malian, Ugandan and Tanzanian Presidential Investment Advisory Committees.



EGMONT OTTERMANN (PPC) is a professional chemical engineer and has focused on energy, alternative fuels and environmental engineering in the cement industry for the past 12 years. He is the Group Energy Manager for Pretoria Portland Cement Company, and responsible for developing an energy strategy to take the company into an energy constrained decade. PPC is the leading supplier of cement in Southern Africa, with eight manufacturing facilities and three milling depots in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. These facilities are capable of
producing more than seven million tons of cement products each year. They are the market leader in South Africa with a product range that encompasses all applications and a technical services team that is on hand to provide industry solutions. DR. GIRMAI ABRAHAM has held the post of Senior Economic Advisor at the Ministry of National Development, The State of Eritrea, since 2003. He has advised Government on a wide spectrum of portfolios including investment, energy, the environment, international trade, human capacity building, the Millennium Development Goals, and development planning. He has lead, coordinated or participated in the drafting of policy and program documents including environmental coastal policy,
Eritrea’s first Millennium Development Goals Report, and the integrated social sector part (education, health, human welfare, justice and the media) of Eritrea’s Five-year development plan- 2009-2013. In 2006, he lead an Eritrean Technical Cement Team in negotiations with a Chinese corporation to build a cement plant in Eritrea.

Previously he served as Alternate Executive Director (1998-2000) and as Executive Director (2000-2002) in the World Bank Board of Executive Directors representing 22 mostly English speaking countries. At various times between 1982 and 1996, he served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Acting Department Head of the Economics Department, College of Business and Economics, Grambling State University, Grambling, Louisiana, USA. Dr. Abraham and his wife live in Asmara.

PATRICK MWESIGYE (UNEP), Programme Officer for UNEP Africa, was educated in Uganda, Nigeria, Australia and Netherlands in Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Environmental Science and Technology. He is an experienced businessman with interests in education and environmental consultancy with 15 years of professional experience. He has an excellent understanding of the business climate in Africa and has extensive international exposure.


DR. M KAZEM K PISHGHADAM was born on 1967. He studied M.Sc. in politics and Islamic culture in Iman Sadeq University, Tehran. His recent research involves political developments, Islamic education as well as influences of politic on environmental issues as a PhD candidate in Science and Research branch of Islamic Azad University Tehran. He also has some research on sustainable developments in Islamic world. He linked his previous background with environmental issues in the east. He joined Islamic Azad University in 1995 and attended
several seminars and conferences and presented a number of research papers. He is recently appointed as vice chancellor of finance as well as teaching in Azad University - Shiraz Branch as an associated professor. His also has previous researches on revolution and political developments as well as foreign policy of super powers. He is married with three sons.


NABIL FRANCIS (Suez Cement-Italcement) has a degree in Civil engineering from the national institute of applied sciences in France. He is also graduated from Mac Gill university in Montreal Canada and from the ESSEC business school(MBA) in Paris. He started his career in 1994 as a civil engineer in Bouygues construction company. He joined Italcementi Group in 1998 as a sales engineer in charge of various areas in France as well as in Germany and in the following years until today he has covered different position through the Group subsidiaries. From 1999 to 2003 he was a lecturer in the French engineering school of CNAM(Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers ) teaching cement and concrete. In 2004 he was in Sri Lanka as managing director of International Cement Trader company (ITCG). Since February 2007 he is in Egypt where in June of the same year he was appointed as Sales & Marketing Director of Suez Cement group of companies. Meanwhile he is the Managing Director of the Suez Lime company (production of lime) and of Suez for transportation and trade company (logistic). He has been mandated in the board of Directors of Ready-mix Beton company (ready-mix concrete production) and of Techno-gravel company (aggregates production).
